Line Dance Connection: |
What's your name? Do you have any
dance nicknames that you're known by? |
Catrina Daniel: |
My name is Catrina Daniel and my nickname is Lady T or Tennessee.
Both were given to me by the line dance family. |
|
|
Line Dance Connection: |
Where are you
from and what city do you call home? |
Catrina Daniel: |
I am from Tennessee via the
Jersey turnpike and my hometown is Murfreesboro AKA “Da Boro”. |
|
|
Line Dance Connection: |
What do you do in your
professional life? Any hobbies outside of dance? |
Catrina Daniel: |
I am a registered nurse for
Travelers Insurance. I work in workman’s comp. SORRY! My hobby is swimming. |
|
|
Line Dance Connection: |
So what do they call this dance
craze in your home town? Line Dancing, Hustling, Sliding, Other? |
Catrina Daniel: |
Nashville/Murfreesboro
calls it twining and line dancing. I have no clue what twining actually
means. I call it Line Dancing. |
|
|
Line Dance Connection: |
Are you affiliated with any group
or groups? |
Catrina Daniel: |
I have a line dance
movement called “Live, Love, Laugh, Learn Line Dance!” and I am an honorary
member of a few groups. |
|
|
Line Dance Connection: |
How long have you been dancing? |
Catrina Daniel: |
I have been dancing my
whole life, but line dancing for 8 years. |
|
|
Line Dance Connection: |
How did you get involved in
dancing? |
Catrina Daniel: |
I saw a flyer for a class
at my local community center and called the instructor MJ Hollins
to clue me in on what soul line dancing was all about. She is originally from
Detroit, so she knew how to get down with the get down. She encouraged me to
attend. I went, fell in love and here I am 8 years later- still in LOVE! |
|
|
Line Dance Connection: |
After you attended your very first
class, how did you feel? |
Catrina Daniel: |
I felt “flickted”
I thought I could not dance a lick! (that's country talk y'all) I looked at
line dancing as a math problem I had to solve. I kept going and learning more
and more steps. I went to every class and did not want to ever stop
dancing. I finally mastered a few
dances and thought I was the stuff! Watch out for the big girl! LOL! |
|
|
Line Dance Connection: |
How did you get into choreography? |
Catrina Daniel: |
I started choreographing
because I fell in love with a song. I
visualized steps in my head when I heard that song. I just had to create a
dance after I made sure Bern did not have one to the song. LOL! |
|
|
Line Dance Connection: |
How many dances have you created
and what was the very first dance you created? |
Catrina Daniel: |
I have choreographed 3
dances. Too Easy, TVF Groove (gospel
line dance) and Rockies 's Theme. The first one I created is
"Too Easy” the song is I’ll be Around by the Spinners .The name of the
dance is in honor of my first online dance mentor Kenny J. |
|
|
Line Dance Connection: |
Of all your dances which one would
you say is your favorite? |
Catrina Daniel: |
My favorite of the 3 is “Too
Easy”. My first baby. It embodies the sentiment of how I try to treat people
and how I have been treated in the line dance community. I have received a
lot of love and support and I hope I am giving back as much as I'm receiving.
Whenever you need me, I’ll be there! I’ll be around! I really try to do that.
John Woodhouse says,“ Too Easy” is the hardest easy
dance there is. LOL! |
|
|
Line Dance Connection: |
In your own words, what makes
dancing special? |
Catrina Daniel: |
The people make dancing
special for me. We come from all walks of life, from all over the country and
some from other parts of the world. We are brought together by our love of
line dancing. We may be different, but we dance the same steps in unison.
It’s a beautiful thing. There's nothing like it. |
|
|
Line Dance Connection: |
If you could change one thing
about dancing, what would it be? |
Catrina Daniel: |
I would change the negative
things we say and do to one another. I have been guilty too! (past tense) I’m
calling myself out! LOL! Like momma said, “If you can’t say something nice
don’t say anything at all” Do unto other as you would have them do unto you.
I can preach that thang! LOL! Live, Love, Laugh,
Learn Line Dance Y’all! |

Line Dance Connection: |
Tell me one thing about yourself
that the dance community would find surprising. |
Catrina Daniel: |
I have to name two,
sorry. I have 2 handsome sons Julian
age 22 and Jayden age 21. I am an expert swimmer and
can teach anyone to swim. |
