My name is Douglas Hawkins, Jr.

I have many dance nicknames: X-Man, Bruce LeeRoy-The Original Glow (Chris Blues).

Where are you from and what city do you call home?

Douglas Hawkins Jr.:

I was born and raised in Baltimore, MD and I currently reside in Plainfield, NJ.

What do you do in your professional life? Any hobbies outside of dance?

Douglas Hawkins Jr.:

I am a Medical Scheduler.

 

My hobbies outside of dance are running marathons, flying kites, video games (yeah l’mma big kid!) and football (Carolina Panthers).

Are you affiliated with any group or groups?

Douglas Hawkins Jr.:

Yes, I am a Co- founder of Step 4 Step Soul Line Dancers of NJ.

How long have you been dancing?

Douglas Hawkins Jr.:

 I have been line dancing since January 2005.

How did you get involved in dancing?

Douglas Hawkins Jr.:

I actually got involved by accident...I was put on sabbatical from running in the cold by my doctor and I was told about line dancing by a college friend...met Kenneth 'Kenny J' Johnson a week later and the rest is history.

What do you like most about line dancing?

Douglas Hawkins Jr.:    

The great connection to people that line dancing brings...no limitations on age, color, experience, or location...and the non-threatening exercise that comes with it!

If you could change one thing about dancing, what would it be?

Douglas Hawkins Jr.:

I would love to see more youth involved....this is a legacy that needs to be carried into the next generation.

Tell me one thing about yourself that the dance community would find surprising.

Douglas Hawkins Jr.:

I am actually a great lover of classical music...Tchaikovsky,  Beethoven, and Strauss are my favorites!

Breakwater! Took me the absolute LONGEST time to learn that dance until Elsie Jones took me aside and said 'No, son...THIS is how you do it!'
