My name is Ellen Small and I just go by Ellen.

Where are you from and what city do you call home?

Ellen Small:

I am from Philadelphia and Philadelphia is my home.

What do you do in your professional life? Any hobbies outside of dance?

Ellen Small:

I’m a Telecommunications Specialist.

 

I enjoy collecting candles as a hobby.

So what do they call this dance craze in your home town? Line Dancing, Hustling, Sliding, Other?

Ellen Small:

We call it Line Dancing.

Are you affiliated with any group or groups?

Ellen Small:

No, I’m not affiliated with any group.  I do enjoy dancing with the many groups around the Philly area.

How long have you been dancing?

Ellen Small:

At the age of 2, I won a dance competition and my 1st bank account.

How did you get involved in dancing?

Ellen Small:

My husband introduced me to line dancing.

After you attended your very first class, how did you feel?

Ellen Small:                    

I fell in love!

How did you get into choreography?                                               

Ellen Small:

The love I felt it just took me there.

 

 

Line Dance Connection:

How many dances have you created and what was the very first dance you created?

Ellen Small:

I have created 7 dances.

 

My first collaboration was “Pure D&E” (w/Diane Redd) and the first dance I created was “Breakwater”.

Of all your dances which one would you say is your favorite?

Ellen Small:

Definitely “Breakwater”.

In your own words, what makes dancing special?

Ellen Small:

In life there are only a few things that make you feel good & don't cost a thing…and that’s dancing!

If you could change one thing about dancing, what would it be?

Ellen Small:

I’d like for us to find a common language. I attended a class one time & the instructor said 'Bip Bap Dap' I didn't know what he was talking about.

Tell me one thing about yourself that the dance community would find surprising.

Ellen Small:

I can’t cook!
