Line Dance Connection:

What's your name? Do you have any dance nicknames that you're known by?

Ericka Momon:

My name is Ericka Momon. I go by the name "Ballerina".

Line Dance Connection:

Where are you from and what city do you call home?

Ericka Momon:

I am from Chicago, and Chicago is my home.

Line Dance Connection:

What do you do in your professional life? Any hobbies outside of dance?

Ericka Momon:

In my professional life I am a Property Tax Assessment Analyst for The Cook County Government.

I have plethora of hobbies, but I love to read, sew, oil paint, do crossword puzzles (specifically and only the NY Times puzzles), and design clothing (specifically dance performance wear).

Line Dance Connection:

So what do they call this dance craze in your home town? Line Dancing, Hustling, Sliding, Other?

Ericka Momon:

In Chicago we call this dance craze Line Dancing.

Line Dance Connection:

Are you affiliated with any group or groups?

Ericka Momon:

I am not affiliated with any groups. There are quite a few groups here in Chicago and I consider myself an "honorary" member of them all.

Line Dance Connection:

How long have you been dancing?

Ericka Momon:

I've been dancing for the majority of my life. My Father, who is a paramour of The Arts, enrolled my sister and I in Dance Academy when I was 10. The rest is history as they say.

Line Dance Connection:

How did you get involved in dancing?

Ericka Momon:

I really got involved in dancing when I decided to form a “Modern Jazz" Liturgical dance group. We were blessed to have performed throughout the Chicago land area for many productions... I am also an avid lover of Latin Dancing. In Salsa class I met a young lady named Sabrina who started telling me and our Salsa teacher about a Line Dance class at Mr. G's. I decided to go, that was in 2008. I never stopped going after that, Dr. Loretta Martin was and still is the Teacher there. We became greatly acquainted. Soon I was subbing for her and teaching at some of the functions that she couldn't make. I also started teaching Line Dancing as a warm up before my Salsa dance class and "Step Class" at the local health club.

Line Dance Connection:

After you attended your very first class, how did you feel?

Ericka Momon:

After attending my first class, I felt excited that I had found a new venture that had to do with dancing. Monday classes didn't come fast enough!!!

Line Dance Connection:

How did you get into choreography?

Ericka Momon:

I got into choreography from being a choreographer for my dance group. Choreographing for a modern jazz group has more to do with dramatic interpretation and expression of the body. Line Dancing posed some difficulties for me, because it’s repetitious.

Line Dance Connection:

How many dances have you created and what was the very first dance you created?

Ericka Momon:

I have created a whopping total of (drumroll please) 3 dances.

The very first dance I created was "Mueve Caliente".

Line Dance Connection:

Of all your dances which one would you say is your favorite?

Ericka Momon:

Of all the dances I created "Mueve Caliente" would be my favorite.

Line Dance Connection:

In your own words, what makes dancing special?

Ericka Momon:

What makes dancing special to me is the joy I feel on the inside just thinking about it. Since Line Dancing God has afforded me the opportunity of meeting some very beautiful people.

Line Dance Connection:

If you could change one thing about dancing, what would it be?

Ericka Momon:

If I could change (1) thing about dancing, it would be the "Velocity" (LOL) in which dances are created. There are a lot of phenomenal dances out there that don't get that much recognition (if any) because new dances are being created on the hour daily.

Line Dance Connection:

Tell me one thing about yourself that the dance community would find surprising.

Ericka Momon:

I think people will find it surprising that I have never taken a Ballet class. My dad once enrolled me in Ballet and lets just say I clowned, (LOL) so he took me out and put me in Jazz. I can also do carpentry work. I have put in/installed ceramic tiling, hardwood flooring, etc. ...Oh and I'm not a standoffish person at all.  I’m just extremely shy. I'm the sweetest person you would ever want to meet. (smile)
