Line Dance Connection:

What do you do in your professional life? Any hobbies outside of dance?

Lee Herrington:

I have been in the banking field for 45 years. My daughter and I also own a small business located in Philadelphia, called “Pampered Princess”. It’s a nail salon for little girls. I enjoy cooking! And baking! Also, love home decorating. I will challenge anything, from painting to plastering!

Line Dance Connection:

So what do they call this dance craze in your home town? Line Dancing, Hustling, Sliding, Other?

Lee Herrington:

Here in the Tri-State, MD, DC & Virginia it’s Line Dancing!

Line Dance Connection:

Are you affiliated with any group or groups?

Lee Herrington:

I support a dance studio called Silky Smooth. It’s also where I teach. We have a small group that performs for local events. Silky Smooth has sponsored several line dance events in the past as well.

Line Dance Connection:

How long have you been dancing?

Lee Herrington:

Approximately 5 years.

Line Dance Connection:

How did you get involved in dancing?

Lee Herrington:

Thru the Silky Smooth studio. At the time, I was taking hand dance classes there, which is their main focus, and the owner hosted a one day line dance workshop. Symmetry in Motion ran the workshop. The dance, “Just Fine” was all the craze at that time. (Mary J Blige) I had line danced some back in the day in Philly, but maybe it was just the song, the moves, the energy in the room, but I loved it!

Line Dance Connection:

After you attended your very first class, how did you feel?

Lee Herrington:

I felt like “This is it“! It was fun going thru the hand dance classes, but this line dancing stuff is “the bomb” and I have to continue doing it!

Line Dance Connection:

How did you get into choreography?

Lee Herrington:

I was looking for the music for “Slow Dance” (by Ronnie Goode) to teach in my Saturday line dance class and happened upon “Get Your Dance On” by Fatman Scoop and just loved it. I started messing around with some free style dancing to the music, and little by little, came up with “Just Dance!”

My grandchildren just thought I was so cool, Mom- Mom creating a dance to Fatman Scoop. My kids and I performed it at a family reunion talent show, and won 1st prize! Boy was I the favorite grandmom!

Line Dance Connection:

How many dances have you created and what was the very first dance you created?

Lee Herrington:

I’m one of the newbies so I only have 2 dances on the circuit, Just Dance, and most recently, co-created L&L Style with my best friend. Linda Latorre. (I have 2 coming soon!)

Line Dance Connection:

Of all your dances which one would you say is your favorite?

Lee Herrington:

Just Dance- I would say there is just something about that 1st one, and seeing the LDF response to it every time it’s played. Amazing!

Line Dance Connection:

In your own words, what makes dancing special?

Lee Herrington:

First, for me, its meeting so many wonderful people from all over the country and creating such lasting friendships! Second, I would have to say, dancing just makes me feel good! Mind, body and my spirit!! I love it when I master those “challenging” dances J and I love learning dances and sharing them with my classes!

Line Dance Connection:

If you could change one thing about dancing, what would it be?

Lee Herrington:

At this point I do not have a change, but let’s call it “a want”.  I hope that the passion for line dancing in our LDF continues to grow and that we always continue to support & encourage each other thru it all!!

Line Dance Connection:

Tell me one thing about yourself that the dance community would find surprising.

Lee Herrington:

I would probably say, my age! 64 turning 65 in October! And as each year passes, life gets better & better, even thru the pitfalls. God continues to pick me up and keep on blessing me!
