Line Dance Connection:

How long have you been dancing?

Ramona Pam:

I've danced all my life.  I was the child that danced at family gatherings and for guests that visited our home.  I started formal dance classes at age 12.  I have a degree in P.E./Dance from Cal State University Hayward and a Lifetime credential from the University of California Berkeley for dance.

Line Dance Connection:

How did you get involved in dancing?

Ramona Pam:

I got started in Soul line dancing, after attending a dance in Hayward, CA with a co-worker.  I was in complete awe of all the dancers on the floor, some were on walkers.  I tracked down an instructor that same night about taking classes.

Line Dance Connection:

After you attended your very first class, how did you feel?

Ramona Pam:

After my first line dance class, I was hooked.  I was still working at that time, but it didn't stop me from practicing the dances in my cubicle.  Line dance became my passion.

Line Dance Connection:

How did you get into choreography?

Ramona Pam:

Choreography for me started during my years of dancing professionally with several companies and productions, locally.  I've had the opportunity to choreograph for stage plays, dance events, community and social events.

Line Dance Connection:

How many dances have you created and what was the very first dance you created?

Ramona Pam:

I've created 4 dances.  My first dance was 'Beep Beep'.  The others were 'Obama Slide', 'Oaktown Hustle & Flow' and 'Hustle Rock'.  I'm currently working on two new dances.

Line Dance Connection:

Of all your dances which one would you say is your favorite?

Ramona Pam:

My favorite dance that I created is 'Beep Beep'.  I created this dance in my cubicle at work, in 2005, and it's still popular on the dance floor.

Line Dance Connection:

In your own words, what makes dancing special?

Ramona Pam:

Dancing allows you to come into a space and put all your troubles and anxieties behind you.  I love to hear the music and start the creative process in my head, for myself and my students.

Line Dance Connection:

If you could change one thing about dancing, what would it be?

Ramona Pam:

I would change the way some line dancers relate to each other.  Line dance should be a way to be joyous and not to have petty jealousy, negative gossip and back biting.  Though in my area there is only a small faction that keeps negativity alive.  Overall we have good people, who likes to have a line dancing good time and we do it any chance we get.

Line Dance Connection:

Tell me one thing about yourself that the dance community would find surprising.

Ramona Pam:

I'm a pretty good actor and singer.  I have done a lot of community theatre in the past.
