How did you get involved in dancing?

Tamika Peters:

A coworker of mine came to work one day and said she was going to try something new. She invited me to attend. I didn’t go when she first invited me. As I was getting out of a relationship, I needed something to occupy my time. I always loved dancing so I decided to go. I have been addicted ever since.

Line Dance Connection:

After you attended your very first class, how did you feel?

Tamika Peters:

I was so confused after my first class. I really felt like I was “River Dancing”. I could not understand how a person like, me who has danced the majority of her life, couldn’t pick up a basic dance. LOL

Line Dance Connection:

My first one, “Make You Love Me”.

Line Dance Connection:

In your own words, what makes dancing special?

Tamika Peters:

Dance is special for many reasons. Dance gives me a way to express my inner feelings. It [dance] is a reflection of the soul. It allows me to relieve stress or celebrate.

Line Dance Connection:

If you could change one thing about dancing, what would it be?

Tamika Peters:

I would change the negative undertones that I sometimes see and hear. We need to understand that all of us are enjoying dance for a reason. We must stop searching for faults of our fellow dancers. We need to learn how to “genuinely” look at each other in a positive light. The world is hard enough without the people we call “family” also bringing us down. We have a great thing that we all share in common…..let’s remember that.

Line Dance Connection:

Tell me one thing about yourself that the dance community would find surprising.

Tamika Peters:

I believe that I am Janet Jackson.  Many people do not know that I have had a career in radio. I went to school for Radio Broadcasting and Production. I have done a lot of voice-over work for the local radio stations in Baltimore. Also, that I am a HUGE Mickey Mouse fan. I collect all types of items that have Mickey Mouse on them. Last, I was a plus size model. (Hope those things are surprising)
